The Articles of Incorporation for the White Earth Saddle Club were filed at the Capitol in Bismarck, N. Dak. on the 13th of September 1956. The first officers of the club were President Lloyd Blowers; Secretary Bud Rice; and Treasurer Gilbert Raan. The first directors were Frank Crimmins, Willard Hanson, Arnold Krogen, Lee Addicott, Martin Hegland, Nick Garas, Roy Nelson, Odell Knashaug, and Charles Slemin. The land was purchased from the Bank of North Dakota and consisted of 57 acres. Memberships at the time were $25 for voting members and still remains that today.
The building of the arena and chutes started in the spring of 1957and the first rodeo was held July 28th, 1957. The members provided some of the stock, the concessions were provided by the women of the club and all proceeds went back to the club.
Vera Bergstrom and family took over concessions in 1966. Taking care of meals for the rodeo and preparing them for Fun Days and Trail Rides.
An old bus was used for an office/clubhouse at first until in 1987 an old teacherage was purchased and moved onto the grounds to serve and a club house where the meetings were held and still are held today.
The White Earth Valley Saddle Club adopted the colors of purple and gold from the White Earth High School to use as their official colors.
In 1964 a 500 seat covered grandstand was built with a concession stand underneath.
Ray Straight & Sons also provided concessions almost from the start of the Rodeos.
About 1982 a bridge was placed on the east side of the grounds to cross the White Earth Creek so dances could be held. A few years later a cement slab was poured and the stage from the old "Hub" became the stage to hold many bands.
In 1971 the Calf Scramble was started along with the Almost Famous Shovel Race. (See the fun below!)
In addition to rodeos the club has hosted horse shows, trail rides, steak fries, fun days, and jr. barrel racing days. Now in the year 2008 we will be hosting our first ever Rodeo Pageant!
In 2009 the club purchased a new handmade flag. It came shipped from Austrailia. This replaced the one that was there for many years!
In 2009 Leather Buck made hand tooled leather chaps, made with a white leather and purple fringe, they are traveling chaps to be pasted down from year to year!
